Standby Generator Systems
A permanently installed standby generator can provide automatic backup power to selected circuits or, where properly sized, much of the home.
Systems such as Generac standby generators are typically connected through an automatic transfer switch. When utility power is lost, the system detects the outage, starts the generator and transfers the connected loads to generator power. When utility power returns, the system transfers the home back to normal utility power and shuts the generator down.
Standby generator systems can be designed around the homeowner's needs, available fuel source and electrical load requirements.

Portable Generator Transfer Switch Panels
For homeowners who want reliable backup power without installing a permanent standby generator, a transfer switch panel can provide a practical alternative.
The transfer panel allows selected essential circuits in the home to be supplied from either normal utility power or a portable generator.
During an outage, the homeowner connects the portable generator to an approved exterior generator inlet, starts the generator and manually transfers the selected circuits to backup power.
Depending on the size of the generator, these circuits may include refrigerators and freezers, heating equipment, lighting, selected receptacles, sump pumps, internet and Wi-Fi equipment, garage door openers and other important household loads.
The transfer equipment keeps the generator supply isolated from the utility system, preventing unsafe backfeeding.
